No increase in property taxes for the upcoming fiscal year!
Dear Lackawaxen Township Residents,
We are pleased to inform you that through careful consideration and thorough evaluation of our township tax revenue versus expenses, there will be no increase in property taxes for the upcoming fiscal year. This has been the 10th year in a row that there has been no increase in Township property taxes. This decision was made with the best interests of our community in mind, and we believe it reflects our commitment to maintaining a stable and affordable tax environment for all residents.
Several factors have contributed to our ability to keep property taxes unchanged. We recognize the importance of fiscal responsibility and understand the financial challenges that our community may face, especially in these uncertain times.
Our aim is to continue providing essential services, maintaining infrastructure, and supporting community development without placing an additional burden on property owners. We value your contributions as residents and taxpayers and remain dedicated to transparent and responsible governance.
We encourage you to stay informed about community affairs and actively participate in local discussions. Your feedback is essential to our decision-making process, and we appreciate your continued support. We invite you to attend our monthly Board of Supervisors meetings on the third Monday of every month at 169 Urban Road, Hawley, PA 18428, 630PM. August 30th, 2022
For Immediate Release:
At tonight’s 6PM Lackawaxen Township Emergency Meeting of the Board of Supervisors, your Board of Supervisors approved a temporary 25 Ton Weight Limit on Westcolang Road immediately through 6PM, September 7, 2022.
This was done to prevent further damage by 36+/- Ton Tri-Axle Trucks and other heavy vehicles that traverse that road. By temporarily reducing the weight limit, this recently paved road will have the time needed to cure naturally and extend the life of the road as designed by the townships engineers.
This extenuating circumstance has forced us to make this decision to prevent township (taxpayer) property from being further destroyed.
There will be a detour for those heavy vehicles that need to access sites normally reached by traveling Westcolang Road between the Cuckoo’s Nest and 4 Corners in Mast Hope.
Here are the Detour details for vehicles weighing 25 Ton or more:
From the Coukoo’s Nest – Stay west on Route 590 1.1 miles to Welcome Lake Road. Stay on Welcome Lake Road 3.5 miles to Mast Hope Plank Road. Take Right onto Mast Hope Plank Road. Travel 6.7 miles to the Westcolang/Mast Hope Plank intersection. End of Detour.
From the Westcolang/Mast Hope Plank Road Intersection - Stay on Mast Hope Plank Road (under the trestle) 6.7 miles to Welcome Lake Road. Take Left onto Welcome Lake Road for 3.5 miles to Route 590 East, continue straight, 1.1 Miles to Westcolang Road. End of Detour.
This is an emergency. It is an extenuating circumstance that if not otherwise declared as an emergency, property will be destroyed to an unknown extent and cost to the taxpayer.
July 15, 2022
Westcolang Roadwork
Roadwork on Westcolang Road will start on Tuesday, July 19th starting on 590 at the Cuckoos Nest side. The road will be completely closed as they are tearing up the pavement and repaving. Detours will be in place, please follow the signs.

Information on the Spongy (Gypsy) Moth is below. Contacting the Conservation Office will help them determine where the most damage occurred.
Updated as of February 23, 2022
The statewide spongy moth program that had been in place for years with the state of Pennsylvania has not been funded since 2017. Since that time, the recommendation from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Division of Forest Pest Management is to contact aerial sprayers directly to coordinate identification and the potential need for a spray program on private property. In the last year, there have limited reports for sightings and complaints in Pike County which also indicates that numbers of egg masses and/or caterpillars have been reduced in the last few years. The Pike County Conservation District (District) provides information on the District website on how to identify, manage them on your property, a listing of aerial sprayers as well as additional resources for landowners. The District and DCNR recommend that you coordinate with your neighbors or community association in identifying an aerial sprayer and working with them to determine if an application of spray is needed for the spring of 2022. By working with a large group of landowners the cost of a spray program could be significantly lower.
Contact CA representative for concerns about them in your area.
Contact a sprayer/forester for assessment as early as possible.
